Fray-Adjacent

Xander has a perfectly logical reason to be piling up pillows, blankets, and sofa cushions on the floor of the den. No, really.

Yeah, there'd been good parts to the last two weeks, and work - of several kinds - was fine, even though his Slayer's taking off for another dimension for the weekend.

But people leaving, people who left, people who might get a little nervous about the idea of him going anyplace... It would make anybody sane consider moving into a fort for the near future.

Granted that doesn't explain why Xander's doing it.

After a busy week spent talking, listening, answering e-mail and doing several kinds of work, Xander's relaxing at home, flipping channels despite nothing interesting being on, because he's too lazy to get up and put in a dvd.

Some goodbyes hit harder than others, not that Xander is a fan of any of them. Sunday night finds him slumped on the couch, Galaxy Quest (the reunion film) playing with the sound down low, and Xander flipping through photos on his laptop.

He's a grownup now, so he's allowed to call this mood maudlin instead of emo. Even if it's totally emo.

After a day at the campgrounds, divided between saying goodbye and a strong case of luau-related deja-vu, Xander is in the kitchen, making a peanut butter sandwich.

After a night of patrolling with Mel turned into Slayerfest 2007, Xander had decided to pass on following that up with a trip to Caritas, and had instead headed home to relax. He could thus now be found curled up on the couch poking Amazon.com about a new copy of a certain book, now that his laptop was all shipshape and internets-getting again, post-blackout.

It's getting late but eventually, Xander and Bridge do make it back from the beach. Xander lets them into his apartment, putting a finger to his lips as he calls into the empty place, "Hey band-guys, if you're still here, now would be a good time to clear out..."

Before heading off to John and Aeryn's engagement party later that night, Xander was sitting inside the open doorway, the room itself not powered up, running through the list of sequences - the non-dirty ones, kthx - on the screen of his laptop. He wondered if it'd actually be possible to adapt some of the movie-related ones to fight scenarios for Mel; at least they got the gore-levels right in some of them, even if the dialogue left a little to be desired...

Possibly the turbo-snuggle thing currently going on has something to do with Xander having a few issues with saying goodbye to people. Or possibly he's just being a blanket-hog and Bridge happens to be inextricably tangled in said blanket. Some from column A, some from column B...

Apparently the weekend -- exits and entrances, expected parties and unexpected reappearances, applause and explosions, and... brunch, as you do -- had finally caught up with Xander, because he was nursing one of those hide-behind-the-eyepatch headaches. He'd already taken something for it, but that was just keeping the dull throb from creeping out into the rest of his head.

Xander's sprawled on the couch flipping through one of the few things from FH that made it out of Sunnydale with him: his yearbook. The end of the school semester, like so much this year, sneaked up on him, and it's only now that he's realizing how many people will be graduating - people who in his own head had gone out into the world years ago.
