Bali H'ai, Friday Night: a beachside restaurant, then places more secluded

It's Friday, which means no work and there's that trip up the mountain tonight. It's also Xander's anniversary, which means as cool as the volcano might be -- you'd hope -- the rest of Fandom can enjoy trekking up it in this decidedly not-cool weather without them.

"That was good," Xander says as the door closes behind them and they scuff out into the sand. "Different, but good."

What do you know, Xander's hand isn't actually trapped in his pocket forever. He pulls it out, along with the thing it contains, and holds it out to Bridge.

Which wasn't something Bridge was expecting at all, because a bag like that is a this-contains-jewelry kind of bag, and aside from the dogtags, jewelry isn't really a typical present when it comes to the two of them.

He takes the bag in one hand, his other hand letting go of Xander's so he can actually pull open the drawstring. And pull out the ring attached to a chain that the bag contains.

The ring that looks awfully familiar. He frowns a bit, trying to place where he'd seen it (http://soldtoarmenians.livejournal.com/60825.html)- or one like it, anyway- before.

"It used to be a lot smaller," Xander says helpfully. "And I now owe Isabel like, five million lattes."

"You-" and *then* it hits him, where he knows this from. The first time he'd been a kid for the weekend, the time when both of them had- the time they'd- Oh.

Oh.

"Is this- is your thing the thing that I think it is?" Bridge asks.

And now the sound of the ocean's like a tidal wave, like he's under it and it's crashing on his head. "We can wait as long as you want, if you do. Want. Seems like you always had to wait for me to make up my mind; only fair I take a turn. But... " Breathe, dummy. There isn't really water in your lungs. "Yeah. You asked me once how I'd feel about being a Carson. That offer still open?"

"Yes," Bridge says emphatically. "Yes, yes, absolutely yes it's still open. And I *do* want. More than anything. Just... yes. Please."

"So... that's my thing. Well, it's your thing, if you---" Give him a break; he's on a roll and his brains just got washed away in a freak imaginary tsunami accident. "--yes?"

"Yes," Bridge repeats for good measure. And, okay, his eyes are watering a little (okay, a lot) and he blinks rapidly in an attempt to clear his vision before leaning in to offer a rather enthusiastic kiss to seal the deal.

"Mmmmpgh." Which is being-enthusiastically-kissed-language for "Good."

"Really. Really--" And here he thought his talking problems would stop once he got the proposal out. "--Good."

Bridge's eyes are still all watery when he pulls back just far enough to uncurl the hand still clutching the chain and slip it on over his head.

And then he's looking back up at Xander, kind of unsure about what he should *say* but grinning the kind of grin that's high enough in wattage it could possibly provide enough electricity for all of Fandom for a year. Maybe two.

The only reason Xander's eyes aren't glistening is because one of them is behind a patch so there's a whole singular vs. plural thing there. So yeah.

"Really really good because now your anniversary present is an anniversary present instead of an uncomfortable and kind of awkward reminder that I'm an idiot every time I sit down for the next week or so."

"Huh?" and now Bridge is just confused, because what did the ring have to do with Xander's ability to sit down?

Xander points at Bridge's neck. "That's not your anniversary present. That's an engagement ring."

"I don't know, I'd consider getting engaged to the man I love more than anything a pretty awesome anniversary present, personally." Bridge replies.

"Should I take back the other one? That could get complicated."

"I- no!" Bridge says, wide-eyed. "But, I mean, I didn't- I don't have anything for you," he finishes lamely. Well, he'd paid for dinner, but that's hardly the same thing.

"Seriously? Okay fine, then, you're not my boyfriend anymore."

Bridge opens his mouth and *attempts* to reply to that, but all that comes out is a startled squeak.

Xander just points to the ring.

"Oh. Oh. *Right*," and now Bridge is grinning in full force again.

"So present here?" Xander looks around to check, but they're alone on the beach, and if any squirrels have followed them over from Fandom, it's probably not the scariest thing they've ever seen. "Or wait 'til we get home?"

"Here, please."

"Okay. You've got bail money if I get arrested, right?"

Without waiting for an answer to that, Xander turns around, so he's looking out at the ocean and the distant lights of Fandom, then unbuttons his jeans.

"..." Bridge is very confused right about now.

He shoves his shirt-tail out of the way and lowers them. Just part-way and just the back, since Xander has no desire to flash the distant lights of Fandom.
