MCA roof, Xander's workshop: Thursday night

If Xander had a hammer - oh wait, he did.

There was some small irony in the fact that what he was hammering away at was a bookshelf, but really it was just something to pound small, sharp pieces of metal into at very high velocity and even higher volume. While wearing proper eye-protection.

It was helping. Really.

Bridge knocks at Xander's apartment door and... doesn't get an answer. So he heads up to the roof in the hopes that Xander's in the workshop. The loud banging noises that he can hear even before he opens the door to the roof indicates that his guess is correct, and so he heads over to the workshop.

"Uh, hi...?" he says tentatively, hoping he can be heard over the hammering.

Xander gets in three more good pounds before his brain catches up and he realizes there's someone here. He looks over his shoulder.

"You look, uh. Busy." Bridge fidgets a little. "Sorry if I interrupted."

Xander blinks a couple times and puts down the hammer, shaking his head. He pulls off his safety goggles and runs a hand through his mussed-up hair. "No, I was just... hitting stuff."

Bridge frowns. "What put you in a hitting-stuff mood?" he asks, concerned.

"....you're joking, right?" Which Xander supposes is a good sign for Bridge's mood, anyway.

"Oh," Bridge says quietly. "Um. I'm sorry. I can go?"

Xander winces, realzing how that sounded. "No. Jeez, no. I'm the one who should be apologizing here."

"...why?"

"Why? Seriously? Where the hell do I start?" Xander's not actually improving his hairstyle here.

"Dude, I'm the one who was all messing around in your head and stuff." Bridge points out, shoving his hands in his pockets. Ignoring the fact that it hadn't actually been *him*, but details.

"It wasn't you."

"He was using *my* powers to do that, though." Bridge says.

"To read my mind? Not your fault." Xander shakes his head.

And because he knows Bridge knows this, and he could dance around this for hours and not saying it wouldn't stop Bridge from knowing it, and despite how it goes against everything Scooby in his very nature, he is the grown-up here, he says, "I wasn't possessed, though."

"He was influencing you."

Which is the first Xander's heard of that. "What d'you mean influencing me?"

"Wasn't just reading your thoughts," Bridge mumbles. "Was also... pulling certain thoughts forward, and planting his own."

Which... makes Xander feel better about some things. And worse about others, like the sound of Bridge's voice when he says that.

"Can I kill it?" Xander asks, almost conversationally. "Or at least hit that little card a lot? I've got my own hammer and everything."

"Z and I aren't exactly sure what'd happen if you did that," Bridge says. "I don't *think* it'd let him out, but it's best not to test it I think."

He wasn't serious, except in his imagination, but he says, "Damn," anyway. Then, "I'm sorry," again.

"Anyway. It wasn't *your* fault," Bridge says, unconsciously starting to cross his arms before he seems to realise what he's doing and jams his hands back in his pockets.

"That thing hurt you, and I didn't stop it. I didn't even notice there was anything wrong."

"Neither did anyone else," Bridge points out. "He was very good at covering his tracks."

"You had your gloves off." Xander doesn't say when; he's pretty sure he doesn't need to.

"Do I need to repeat the part where he was *in your head*?" Bridge says. "You didn't notice because he didn't *want* you to notice. Until it was too late."
