MCA #0, Friday afternoon

After sloshing out for some lunch and checking the outside of (Y)MCA to make sure the rising damp wasn't making its way into the apartments, Xander was sitting in the living room with his laptop, listening to the radio again, since the first run-through had mostly been obliterated from his memory by his momentary freakage at Broots' totally incorrect description of yesterday's TOTALLY NON-MAKING-OUT-FILLED events.

Freakage slightly less now that he noted the ongoing theme of 'squirrels gone wild' in last night's broadcast, but still.

"It does. I want pictures if you have them. Parker said nobody got pictures of Jack."

"There are no pictures. None. Zip. Nada," Xander told her. "And they're not on my computer already and I won't e-mail them to you."

"Awww, come on," she wheedled. "I bet you made a pretty girl."

"Dawn said I did. And then she braided my hair. I drew the line at painting my nails though. This time." This is what happens when your best friends are all girls. Xander would just like to warn every male everywhere. PSA.

"Well next time you can come to me and I'll do your nails," Isabel said, not looking at her own. "And we'll eat chocolate and giggle."

"Can there be cookie dough?"

"Absolutely. Uncooked of course." She looked out the window, frowning at the rain. "If it wasn't so miserable out I'd bring some by now."

"You don't need to get pneumonia on top of the salmonella." Xander smiled and let out the breath he felt like he'd been holding since he first listened to her message. "I'm glad you're back. I was worried."

"I'm sorry," Isabel said. "I didn't mean to make you worry."

"I don't think there's much you could've done about that. It's just kind of my thing, these days."

"Oh? Who else has been making you worry?" she asked although even after six months she was willing to bet she knew the answer.

He could say Parker and he wouldn't be lying, but if he did, there'd be the question of why. Besides, he didn't want to get the Bitch-please-over-the-phone face in return.

"Seems like every other weekend Bridge is off to another planet, or, y'know, Hell..."

"He wouldn't be Bridge if he didn't though," Isabel pointed out. "He was helping his friends. Unless he's taking day trips to hell just for giggles. In which case we need to beat him."

"He helped bring Belthazor back." And now that it was over, now that he could let go of the fear that Bridge might not come back, Xander could let his pride in that creep out into his voice. Just a little.

"I heard about that. Good for him," she said. "Was he okay? Didn't you say something about being in the clinic with him?"

"Concussion." Xander frowned. "And something about a tongue that I'm not sure I want more details on. But he's fine now."

He paused a moment, wanting to ask, Are you? Really? but not doing it. If she wasn't ready to talk about it, pushing her to might just make things harder for her.

"Have you slept since you got back?" he asked instead, because that felt fairly safe. "You sound beat."

Isabel vaguely remembered Anders and some TMI but she didn't think Xander needed that trauma. "Good, I'm glad. I only got back a few hours ago so I haven't had a chance to sleep yet. But I will." Maybe.

Hearing a noise, she looked up and saw Cedric at the door. "Xander I need to go. I'll stop by soon okay?"

"Okay. Stay dry." He'd like to have said stay safe but he didn't want to make her apologize for worrying him again.
