MCA#0, Monday Night

Xander was trying Isabel's number again - the twinkiephone had a pretty amazing range, after all, and he could hope - but just like the first time, it rang and rang, until at last it kicked over to voicemail. This time, though, he didn't leave a message, just thumbed the End Call button in frustration.

"Xander?" Bridge says tentatively.

"I can't say that." Though it'd sure as hell be simpler if he could. "You think I'd be so scared of hurting you if I didn't? But it can't be the same way as before."

"Maybe not," is all Bridge says. And as determined as he is to get Xander back, he knows he won't be able to change his mind in one night. "I should go," he says, standing up.

Xander, already standing, nods, though he doesn't really want Bridge to go, he just... agrees that it's probably best.

"You've got school tomorrow, yeah?" And if the point needed to be made again, that certainly makes it, doesn't it?

"Got a class to teach," Bridge says with a shrug.

"Teach?" That throws him, yeah.

"Aly had to take care of something back home," Bridge explains. "So I'm teaching her class this week."

"Ah." That makes a little more sense, though it still skews Xander's point about being a school-kid three degrees to the left. It also reminds him of something. "Did the radio say something about you pushing her in the mud a while back? What was that about?"

He might be stalling because he doesn't want Bridge to go. It's possible. He's not even sure himself.

"I, um," and Bridge realises that perhaps 'I did it because I was jealous when she said you were cute' might not be a good answer. Given Xander's repeated insistence that Bridge being a teenager was an issue, telling him about the time he acted like he was five (without the excuse of actually being *turned in to* a five year old) was probably unwise. "She told me I could," he says finally. Because it *is* the truth.

"...you were mud-wrestling with her?" Why this makes Xander frown slightly is an exercise perhaps best left to brains that have at least 50 IQ points over his.

"*She* doesn't think the age gap is a problem," Bridge mutters.

Why this makes Xander frown more than slightly is a little more obvious, if you look at it from the right angle. You know, the incorrect one. "Really."

"Yup," Bridge nods, not elaborating.

"I should probably talk to her about that." In a conversation brought to you by the letters W, T, and F.

"Yeah, maybe you should," Bridge says. He really was leaving. Any time now. Yep.

Really he should be glad Bridge was...mud-wrestling... with somebody else, right? Means he's at least interested in people-not-Xander, which is good, aside from the fact that it's another adult. Right?

Yeah, right.

"Go home, Bridge," Xander finally says, aware that his own brain isn't making sense and hoping maybe with Bridge not there, that'll change. "Get some sleep. If I hear anything from Isabel, I'll let you know."

"Okay, thanks," Bridge says, as he heads out the door. For once, not adding a "see you later", or anything like that.

Xander shuts the door behind him and notes purely for scientific purposes that Bridge leaving does not in fact make his head any clearer.
