If Xander's been a little clingy today - like "Call me when you get out of class and come straight back here plz" clingy - who's going to mock him for it? After landing on your ass in Prohibition-Era Chicago, not knowing what might happen if the folks in Fandom didn't find a way to get you all home, and spending a month away from everyone you know -- give or take seventy-five years -- you'd be clingy too.

Possibly not at the same time with the same person because that way leads to confusion and the establishment of hard and fast rules about not groping Marty Blank. Not dirty.

So anyway, yeah. There might be a couch and some popcorn and somebody attached to somebody else's side in a not entirely unlimpetlike manner.

"Dude, I used to eat synthesized food all the time," Bridge points out. "I can totally live with that."

"It could be a real milkshake though," Xander calls back over his shoulder. "I think there's still ice cream."

"Best. Boyfriend. Ever." Bridge declares as he works on making the couch all unfoldy.

Xander returns from the kitchen a bit later, plates of synthesized pizza and sloppy homemade twinkie-flavored milkshakes on a tray.

"Dinner is served. Except for the already had dinner part."

Bridge laughs. "There's absolutely nothing wrong with second dinner," he says from his spot on the now much more bed-like couch.

"Especially considering how many we missed." Xander passes him a plate and sets the glasses on the coffee-table, now pushed to the side of the couch.

He sits down on the edge of the bed and picks up his slice of pizza, but doesn't bite into it, eying Bridge quietly for a moment.

And, okay, Bridge is unaware of any scrutiny as he closes his eyes and takes his first bite of pizza, and there's a sound that possibly could be interpreted as a bit, well... pornographic.

Xander's thoughtful frown turns into a smirk, but the observation continues.

Making rather quick work of the pizza slice, Bridge opens his eyes in order to grab one of the milkshakes... and sees the look Xander's giving him.

"What?"

"Just thinking. Wondering what you did while you weren't having pizza in forever."

"Eating lots of non-pizza things?" Bridge tries. Well, 'lots' was perhaps not quite accurate, except in the sense that there was definitely a variety of different kinds of food. Just... not pizza.

"Yeah, you look like you spent eight months pigging out on Beef Wellington." Picking up the sarcasm there shouldn't be hard, even for Bridge.

"Well, okay, not so much that either?" Bridge admits. "But, I mean, there was food." Weird food. "As long as I had something to trade for it."

Xander flashes back to the conversation he'd had with the locals when he'd first landed in Chicago, and his eye widens. "...You didn't."

Bridge shrugs. "It wasn't a big deal," he says, oblivious to what Xander's implying.

Honestly, truly and honestly, Xander hadn't asked because he'd been worried about who Bridge had been doing for the last eight months. The thought never, despite the comparison he'd made to himself back in Sunnydale, even entered his mind. Which means that his flailing now is completely genuine. And extra-flaily.

"You what now? how is that NOT A BIG DEAL?"

"I had to eat!" Bridge replies, genuinely confused now.

"Well, of course you had to eat." Xander's somewhere between guilty and appalled at the idea that Bridge could have ended up someplace where that was his only option. and still flailing. "I'm not, I'm not like, mad, I'm just. Just. How is that not a big DEAL?"

"...Because I use my powers to find stuff all the time? This wasn't that different."

"How is using your powers to find stuff the same as --" Xander stops, teetering on one of those rare, thrice-in-a-lifetime moments when he actually realizes he's being an idiot before he says something incredibly stupid.

He's just not sure how he's being an iodiot yet.

"Um. Wait. What is using your powers to find stuff the same as?"

"Well, I've tracked stuff before," Bridge says. "But, you know, usually I've got a vague idea of what- or who- I was looking for. It was a bit different when all I had to go on was 'interesting stuff I can trade'," he shrugs. "Admittedly it helped that just about anything was bound to be considered 'interesting' by someone down there."

"Oh. Ah. Stuff. Right. To trade." He knew that. Really.

"Yeah," Bridge says slowly, giving Xander an odd look. "...What did you *think* I meant?"

"Um." This? Would not be one of those anti-idiot moments. "Well. I didn't know! I mean. Because I didn't think you would, but like you said you had to eat, and you kind of sort know how from that one weekend, and what did you think I meant when I said you didn't with my who the hell would put vegemite on a Twinkie face anyway?"

Once Bridge actually parses all that, his only response is to stare at Xander. A lot.
