"Hey, Xander," Logan said. He crossed the threshold with a slightly exaggerated step and raised his eyebrows at Xander. Not a vampire, see?

Xander nodded; given the vampire in question, he refused to feel dumb for checking. "You okay?"

Logan didn't blame Xander for checking; he actually appreciated it. But he still had to be Logan about it.

"I'm fine," Logan said. "Just really hoping this is a false alarm."

"What do we know besides he's acting weird?" Xander asked. "Nobody's been hurt?"

"Not that I know of," Logan said.

"Let's hope it stays that way." Xander waved a hand towards the den. "Have a seat. There's food if you're hungry. Kind of got cold, but I can fix that."

"Not a problem," Logan said. "Thanks."

A short time later, Bel shimmered outside the door of MCA0, his arm around Veronica's shoulders. "We're here," he said needlessly, sounding very unhappy.

Veronica knocked on the door and hoped that Logan had made it here safely.

"Hey guys," Bridge greets the two of them as he opens the door. He might not have the whole "don't give direct invitations" thing drilled in to his head quite as thoroughly as someone from Sunnydale would, but he's making a point to remember it now.

"Hey," Bel said. "Can we come in?" Probably not the right thing to say at this moment.

Veronica rolled her eyes. "Hey, Bridge," she said, grabbing Bel's arm and tugging him in to the apartment without waiting for an invitation. She knew there wouldn't be one forthcoming and she wasn't about to stand outside all night.

"Did Logan make it here okay?"

"I'm fine," Logan said. "Still breathing and everything."

"Good," Veronica said, crossing the room to give him a hug. "Do we know anything for sure yet?"

Logan shook his head.

"It couldn't be," Bel said, leaning back against a wall. "Maybe he was just messing with me, still pretending." Because Angel was so well known for his mischievous tendency to prank people. About Angelus.

"Angel's about as good at messing with people as *I* am," Bridge points out.

"Yeah, but . . . how?" Bel said. He cast a glare in Logan's direction. No way he could've given Angel a true moment of happiness.

"That's what I'd like to know." Logan glared back. Bel had tried to relieve Angel of his soul before, after all.

"I didn't do it!" Bel said.

From:

"No one's saying that!" It's technically true. Logan had *implied* it, but he hadn't said it.

"You're awfully defensive," Logan said to Bel. "Something we should know about?"

"Why the hell would I turn him back into Angelus and then go to Veronica and clue her in and let her call you?" Bel said. "I don't want Angelus back. I haven't for a very long time. But hey, maybe you wanted to spice up your love life or something. Or you're hoping Angelus will make you a vampire this time."

Logan advanced on Bel and was ready to take a swing at him unless someone intervened.

And this would be Bridge, stepping in front of Logan. "Dude," he says. "Please don't. A fight is the last thing we need right now, okay?" There's bound to be enough of that sooner or later, after all, with Angelus wandering around.

"I didn't do it," Bel muttered, but he managed to refrain from making another comment about Logan.

Xander rolled his eye. "Not that the Testosterone Comedy Hour isn't a jumbo-size barrel of laughs in a room full of guys who all sleep with other guys, but you do know Bridge could scan you if you wanted; he'd know if anybody was lying."

"Oh," Bridge blinks. "Right! I could do that. Yes," he says, trying not to look as sheepish as he feels at only just remembering that was an option.

"Go for it," Bel said, holding out his arms. "I've got nothing to hide."

"Go ahead," Logan said. "Scan him."

Bridge rolls his eyes. "I should scan *both* of you," he points out. "It's the only way to know for sure."

"Oh, come on!" Logan exclaimed. "No way would I do anything to bring Angelus back! You don't need to poke around in my head."

"I know that and you know that," Bridge says. "Bel doesn't. But he *does* know I'm not going to lie about something like that. And I'm not going to poke around in your head. I'll just read your aura. Quick and painless and I won't know anything you don't want me to."

Logan shot an angry glance at Bel, then looked back at Bridge. "Fine," he grumbled. "Just my aura, nothing else."

Bridge nods, taking off a glove and focusing on Logan. And comes up with... absolutely nothing that would indicate he's being anything less than truthful about having nothing to do with Angelus's reappearance. "He's telling the truth," Bridge tells Bel. "Your turn."

Veronica had found an out of the way corner to sit down and wait for the testosterone to dissipate. She was very happy to let Xander and Bridge deal with Logan and Bel until everyone was calm and they could have an adult conversation.
