Food was, in theory, ready. This was because Xander had, in fact, totally cheated -- the only things that hadn't come from the food synthesizer were the coffee and pie. The pie was chocolate peanut butter pie, and consisted of peanut butter, milk, pudding, and Cool Whip, but at least he'd made it himself!

You do Thanksgiving your way, and he'll do it his, mm'kay?

Z knocked at the door.

"Z!" Bridge exclaims happily as he opens the door. "Come in! We've got food." Okay, mostly replicated food but pssht.

Z pretty much lived off replicated food, so this was not a problem. "Was I supposed to bring anything?" she asked Bridge nervously. "I feel like I should have brought something."

"You brought you," Bridge says with a grin. "That's all that matters."

"You're cute when you're being cheesy," said Z, grinning back at him. "Even when you're not all old."

"Thanks... I think?" Bridge says.

"You're welcome." Z looked around. "Is there pie?"

"Chocolate and peanut butter!" Bridge says. "Which is untraditional but hey, sometimes tradition must be bucked if it's for a good cause. Like tastiness."

"You have a very good point there, and chocolate and peanut butter are of the good," Z said. "Lead me to the pie! Wait, no. We have to eat other food before pie, don't we?"

"Some traditions should not be bucked," Bridge says. "And really, the other food, while not pie, is also good."

"And that's all that matters," Z said.

"See, now you've got it," Bridge says with a nod.

"I'm getting this Thanksgiving thing down," Z said. "It's not just the day random volunteers show up at the shelters to do their good deed for the year, you know."

"Have a seat," Xander told her. "Have some genuine replicated turkey and cranberry sauce. And shammy yams."

"Ooh," said Z. "Genuine replicated food! My favorite!" No, really.

"You sound like you grew up in my house," Xander said with a snicker.

Z didn't know anything about Xander's house, but, "I wish."

Xander did know a bit about how Z had grown up. It'd just been a long time since Bridge had told him -- like a before he went home long time -- so he hadn't thought before he spoke.

"I'm not sure I'd wish my family on anybody, but uh, yeah. Way to forget some people are lucky to have a house. Sorry."

"And once again I manage to bring down the holiday mood," Z sighed. "It's a gift, I'm afraid."

"Naaah." Xander waved a hand. "Nobody can be depressed in the same room as candied yams!" He pointed to the table, where you'd have to take his word for the fact that there were yams under that layer of marshmallow fluff.

"Where are yams?" Z said teasingly, peering at the fluff. "I see no yams!"

"They're hiding!" Xander insisted.

"Oh, they're sneaky yams," Z realized. "I approve."

"Well, you'd hide under the fluff too, if you knew it was Annual Yam Eating Day."

"The yams are clever like that. Good thing we're going to eat them."
