MCA Holosuite, Thursday Afternoon

Before heading off to John and Aeryn's engagement party later that night, Xander was sitting inside the open doorway, the room itself not powered up, running through the list of sequences - the non-dirty ones, kthx - on the screen of his laptop. He wondered if it'd actually be possible to adapt some of the movie-related ones to fight scenarios for Mel; at least they got the gore-levels right in some of them, even if the dialogue left a little to be desired...

He disintegrated into a puff of bone-shaped dust, and the drink in his hand fell to the floor with a crash.

And Xander facepalmed when the girl who'd been dancing with him stared and screamed.

"Oh, shut up," Mel growled, forgetting she was talking to a hologram. "If it wasn't for me you would have been lurk bait."

Unfortunately for Mel she didn't realize that the staked one had friends and were beginning to congregate around the dance floor.

"Company at one o'clock, and they left their pulses at home," Xander said, pointing.

A scary grin crosses Mel's face. "Perfect," she said and rushed immediately after the group of vamps.

"Crowd. Of people. Who aten't ded yet!" Xander felt the need to remind her.

And then hoped this simulation included a holographic stake in his pocket, because he wasn't especially happy to see the bruiser who turned and growled at him while four of the guy's friends were advancing on Mel.

Mel had already pushed several "aten't ded" people out of the way to get to the first vampire who she readily staked.

Unfortunately the other three had already started their attack the first one getting a good shot in the face.

Mel fell on the ground to look up and see the lurk approaching Xander. "Harris! Look out!"

Holographic stake included, yeah. Which was good because Xander would've felt kind of stupid reaching into his pocket and pulling out the twinkiephone to brandish at the vampire rushing him.

Not that the stake did much more good when the sheer momentum and size of the creature knocked Xander to the floor and the stake out of his hand.

Mel pushed the vampire that was attack her back and rushed toward the vamp that was attacking Xander.

She hurled the stake at the vamp's chest.

*SPLODINATION YAY!*

Xander coughed dust - do not ask how you can cough holo-dust - and scrambled for his stake. "Thanks."

"No-" *punch* "-problem."

*kick*

"Stake-" *punch* "please!"

Xander handed off his own stake, since he wasn't sure where hers had fallen, and ducked out of the way.

Mel grabbed the stake and went medieval on the remaining vampires. She staked the first one while pushing the other vampire into the third.

"Any more flooding in?" Mel yelled out.

Xander used the breather to find the stake that Mel had hurled, then called back, "No. But I guarantee this band'll never play a vampire town again." Considering everyone on stage was staring at them now. Medieval tends to attract attention, even in Sunnydale.

"Tarantino film," Xander muttered to the nearest holographic dancers. "Location scouting."

No, it made no sense, and no, there were no cameras. But yes, it was Sunnydale.

Mel knocked down both remaining vampires with a spinning kick and jumped on top of them to stake them both.

"Rocketship. Where are the rest?"

She ignored the looks of the other people in the bar. Hadn't people ever seen lurks before?

Xander blinked. "That'd be it, I think. They work in packs, but they don't usually hunt in huge ones. Attracts attention." Unlike, say, the two of them...

"What?" Mel said trying to read Xander's expression. "What'd I do wrong?"

Xander shook his head. "I wouldn't say wrong, just maybe wrong-time, wrong-place? I'm gonna guess when you hunted vampires back home, you didn't have to worry about people noticing?"

"People tend to run whenever the lurks show up," Mel said looking at the holographic people staring at her.

She glared back. Maybe hoping for a fight.

"I didn't think people would be this stupid about getting their blood sucked out."

"Most people don't believe in vampires. Well, most people not in Fandom. Vamps these days pretend to be human if they're in a crowd. Sneak in and grab somebody."

"Huh," Mel said looking around the bronze. "So where else can I find a ton of lurks to beat the crap out of."

"Well, there's always the Old Abandoned Flame Factory warehouse district. They tend to nest there." Xander glanced around the room. "Assuming this program has a warehouse district." He looked over at her. "Really one of those days, huh?"

"Got a voicemail from Harth," Mel said quietly before heading for the door. "So yeah. Bad day."

Xander frowned, casting a final look at the familiar-but-gone image of the Bronze before following her out. "Gotta say I'm not thrilled that evil seems to be better at folding, spindling and mutilating the space-time continuum than we are."

"He always was a know-it-all," Mel grumbled.

"Feel like telling me what he said?" Xander asked, guessing that if it had been a threat of imminent danger, he'd have heard about it before now.
