Outside MCA, Sunday Noonish

Having finally sent Bridge home this morning because hey changes of clothes are nice, Xander was heading out into town in quest of coffee that didn't come from a --- okay, coffee that didn't come from his machine.

"Whoa, sorry." Xander looked down at him. "And heh, a little, yeah."

"Way rude," Nick said, chagrinned. Mom would be giving him a lecture for that particular screw-up, if she heard. Time to salvage the situation. "Really. Hey, I'm Nick. Adama. Nice to meet you." He held out his hand to Xander and looked expectant, hiking up the backpack on his shoulder.

"Not so much rude, no," Xander answered, blinking at the offered hand, then reaching down to shake it. "Wait, Adama?" Not exactly this world's most popular name.

"Yup. Nicholas Timothy. Why?" Nick asked, looking suspicious. "And I've seen all the Stranger Danger videos, mister. And my mom can kick your ass. So no tricks, okay?" And because he was really starting to wonder, he said, "Did you ever meet her, maybe?"

"Your mom can kick my ass? Like that narrows it down." Xander held up both hands. "And hey, I may be strange but I'm not a stranger. Well not that kind of stranger."

"Okay. 'Cause, I have my own Twinkies with me." Nick calmed down a little, and said, turning toward the school. "Miss Parker? I could tell you her first name, but there's not enough Time-Out in the world for that if she finds out."

"............." Xander allowed his face to speak for him.

"What?" Nick stared at him. "Are you having a seizure?"

"Possibly." There was only one person Xander knew of who went by Miss Parker. ...Well, two, but 'his' Parker said that they only called her that at the Centre. Either way, neither of them had a kid. "Would you get a time-out if I said your mom's first name?"

"Probably," Nick admitted. "But I won't tell if you won't." He nodded emphatically. "Sooo....?"

"...I might get a Time-Out though. Courtsey of shoe-related concussion." Xander peered down at the boy. "Is it Maureeeeeeeeeen?"

And then facepalmed because apparently his five-year-old self had snuck out of his mouth while he wasn't looking.

Nick snickered. "Yeah, only without so much 'eeeeee'. Unless you work for her. All those people look like they're going 'eeeeee' all the time." He grinned at Xander, feeling relieved, because if he knew about the shoes, he definitely knew his mom. "So, yeah. Know where I can find her?"

"Oh, boy." Xander rubbed the back of his head. "Yes? In theory? But I think she might be a little surprised to see you."

Like she might be a 'little' surprised to see.... Xander was going to think 'pigs with wings' but then he remembered where he was, and decided coming up with a comparison might be a losing battle.

"Is it really 2007?" Nick asked in a low voice, as if trying to keep it a secret. "'Cause I thought it might be a conspiracy or something, but I don't know why anyone would conspiracy 2007."

Ohhhhkay, that would explain... a little, at least. "Are you not from 2007?"

"I'm from 2015," Nick said, folding his arms and looking annoyed. "Can we go find my mom now? Please?"

"Yeah. She's... probably at the dorms? Or it's Sunday; she might be in town." Mostly Xander was babbling while he tried to do math in his head, with minimal success. "I should probably call her."

He dug his phone out of his pocket.

"Cool," Nick said, pacified. "Hey, tell her we should get lunch. I'm hungry. And I've only got two Twinkies left."

"Twinkies I can do," Xander said absently, already punching in Parker's number and listening to it ring. He popped the Twinkie-button while he waited for her to answer, and a wrapped one fell out the bottom of his phone.

"Parker." A small sound of desperation. "No, don't do that, Catie. No!"

Xander tossed the Twinkie in Nick's direction. "Um. Parker?"

"Kinda busy freaking out, Xander--"

"Kinda have something of yours here that probably won't help with that..."

"Oh, God. Another one?" Parker whimpered. "Boy or girl?"

"Boy." Xander glanced at Nick. "He says his last name is Adama."

"Oh, that's just... priceless." Parker sighed, then said, "I'm taking the other two out for ice cream. Meet us at Chilly Boulder? And thank you! I guess. God, I'm so confused...."

"There's more?" Xander glances down at Nick. "This is one of those weekends, isn't it."

"Yes. And the fact that it's starting on Sunday? Is of no comfort to me." She shook her head. "I'll be the one head-tabling between a hyper 4-year-old and a smartass 10-year-old. See you there."

Xander closed the phone and looked at Nick again. "Well, the good news is we're going to the ice cream parlor. The bad news is your mom's in the middle of a nervous breakdown."

"Ice cream, woo!" Nick stuffed the second half of the Twinkie in his mouth, then asked around it, "Ith her ulcther flaarring up?"

"Oh god, I hope not. That's all we need," Xander answered, thinking of the photoshoot where proximity to Logan Echolls somehow managed to make her vomit blood. "Ice Cream Shop's this way." He pointed down the street.
