Right, this wouldn't be Xander pacing around, worrying about Bridge and Z and cursing the lack of new news, in between poking verrrrry carefully at the old news in his in-box in case something jumps out and bites him. Which hey, Fandom, always a possibility.

He was also hoping he might hear from somebody who'd be likely to understand how completely fraxx0red his brain was right about now.

"...sadly despite my years of intense research and experimentation I still lack sewer-related superpowers and have to use planes like mere mortals." Which made him think of what he'd learned last night, why he was sitting around waiting for a call, and he realized he didn't even know if she knew. "Crap. Did anybody tell you about Bridge and Z?"

Willow nodded. "I was going to ask you the same question, only with more of a Bridge emphasis for obvious reasons."

"Parker called, and then there was a meeting last night." Xander gave her a dry laugh. "Xander Harris: Master of Timing, huh."

"Maybe you came back now so you could help," Willow pointed out.

"I thought about that," he admitted. "I mean that's not why the Council's springing for the hotel room - they sent me to find a new Slayer. But nobody was expecting her to be here."

Willow's mind went to the first obvious place. "But you already knew there was a new Buffy here."

"There wasn't a here here until yesterday. Or maybe the night before." Xander shook his head. "But I don't think it's Buffy. The spell was showing her too, I think, but kind of fuzzy because it didn't know how to deal with the idea of two of her."

"Oh, you mean another Slayer besides Buffy?" Willow said, starting to get it.

He nodded. "We're not supposed to have any new Slayers; all of ours are okay. But this one's brand-spankin'."

Xander put his hands in his pockets. "That's all I know about her, though. Well, that and either there's bugs in the system again or she's running around with a scythe that there's no way she should have either."

"And her name is Mel," Willow added helpfully.

"Right, and her name is M--" Xander turned his head to get a better full-on blink going. "Um?"

"She's very nice," Willow added.

"...You know her?"

"We met the other day," Willow said. "She's from the future."

But also with the processing. "So maybe it's not crickets, after all."

"You have crickets from the future?"

It was Fandom. Weirder things have happened.

"Not with me. But there were some in the server last year. Made it look like a whole platoon of Slayers had suddenly appeared in the middle of the Vatican."

"Oh." Willow tried not to look disappointed. "Well Mel's not a cricket. Not as far as I know."

"Good to know; at least I can put that much in my report. From future, not cricket." He was serious. Though he did have enough self-awareness to add, "...Our lives are different from other people's."

"My boyfriend's a king from a land of talking animals that exists in a closet," Willow said, by way of agreement.

Xander decided that "And your girlfriend's a vampire Slayer," would probably not go over well at this point, so he stuck with, "Peter's a king? I thought he was a knight. Did he jump three pawns and a bishop or something?"

"He was always a king," Willow admitted. "And an Emperor. He just doesn't like to brag about it."

"Knight, king, emperor... Talking animals don't have much of a budget for government positions, huh. He must multi-task really well."

"His brother and sisters help," Willow said. "They're all royalty. Peter's High King though. And not to be shallow but he looks really good in the outfit."
