SPD Earth, Bridge and Xander's Quarters, 2023

When you're living in the future with no job to speak of and not much to do but watch tv with alien subtitles and answer e-mails from your fellow alumni, shockingly enough there's plenty of time for things like preparing an anniversary dinner.

Not that he didn't know that traditionally one month was like the Kleenex Anniversary or something, but dude. He was a Harris. Well, an ex-Harris. One month without even threats of divorce or flying crockery was probably a new world record for his family.

And thus there was Chinese food, because it was something not made by a synthesizer, it was something he could walk in off the street and order without being afraid humans couldn't actually digest it, and oh yeah -- it was what they'd eaten on their first date.

Xander shrugs. "Anybody can rent out apartments and fix roofs. Save the earth from evil aliens is a little more specialized."

"You can fix more than just roofs, though," Bridge says, an idea beginning to form.

Xander reaches for something he really hopes is Kung Pao chicken. "Yeah, but contracting experience fifteen years ago in another dimension isn't really worth the paper my three quarters of a degree isn't printed on. I don't have the qualifications to qualify for the jobs I'm qualified for."

"You've lived here for a month now," Bridge says. "You've *seen* what happens during a zord fight, right?"

"Sure." He nods. "Destruction on the same level as three Slayers loose in a mega-mall with somebody else's gold card."

"Do the Slayers have to fill out forms in triplicate after?"

"Willow's do."

"That's.... okay, actually entirely unsurprising," Bridge muses.

"So you think I could get a job making people fill out forms?" Xander asks, poking at a pile of rice with his chopsticks. "Me not habloing Sirian's been an issue with the stuff I've applied for so far."

"Well, not exactly?" Bridge says. "But what about a job with the people who make *me* fill out the forms?"

A piece of chicken halfway to his mouth, Xander pauses and blinks. "Despite how good I think we all know I'd look in spandex, I can't exactly see that happening. There's the whole no powers and one eye thing."

"Not everyone who works for SPD is a Ranger," Bridge points out. If they were, this whole 'defending the planet' thing would probably be a whole lot easier.

Xander lets the chicken finish its journey, chews and swallows, giving Bridge a silent okay, granted wave of his hand before his mouth is free for talking again.

"I'm listening. I didn't exactly see any Now Hiring blurbs in the want ads, though."

"Please," Bridge rolls his eyes. "With good chunks of the city being knocked over on a weekly basis, they can *always* use someone who knows what the hell they're doing to help put them back up."

"...You mean play damage control. Like I used to do for the Watchers."

"Well, um. Yeah? I guess. I mean, if you wanted to do that sort of thing."

Fixing things for a living without the part of his old job that involved convincing teenage girls to leave home for the adventure of a short, crappy lifetime? "You're joking, right? Where do I sign?"

Bridge grins. He'd been *hoping* that's what Xander would say. "Well, you'll probably have to, like, talk to Cruger or something."

"...Remind me again why being a kept man is such a bad career choice?"

"Because I've met you?" Bridge points out. "And, because, well. Being a Power Ranger doesn't actually pay all that much. Especially if we're gonna be doing the family thing- you know, down the road."

"Hey, no fair cheating by saying true things."

"I didn't ask you to give me good reasons. Dork."
