Mauvaise Chance Roof Garage, Friday Morning

Xander had unlocked the doors up there and was checking out the facilities... but not speculatively eyeing the corner room that looked like it could easily be set up as a carpentry workshop because that would mean he was thinking things he couldn't afford to be thinking.

He'd left a note downstairs at the desk indicating where he was, just in case someone came by looking for him, and one on the door of his apartment.

"Looks like somebody started to put one in." Xander gestured around at the rest of the garage-space. "Mostly it's mechanical stuff, though, which... not my area of expertise. Not on spaceships, anyway. Got a spark-plug problem in your Chevy, we can talk."

"...you know, I kinda have a bit of experience there," Cally said.

"With spark-plugs?"

"Spaceships," Cally said. "Though sparkplugs too."

"That's right, didn't you build a something-or-other up on the roof of the dorms?"

"Yeah," Cally said, not mentioning the part where it didn't fly and was now being used as a not-so-cleverly disguised still.

Xander crossed his arms and surveyed the empty-except-for-tools-and-equipment garage. "Well, nobody's banging down the door at the moment, but if somebody does while I'm here, I sure wouldn't say no to some help. Since my job on the repair team would be staring at the ship, trying to control the dork-factor, and wondering which button doesn't make it explode."

"Making them 'splode is bad," Cally said. "You know my number and stuff. Plus I come with my own tools."

"Me too! We probably have different tools, though."

Xander blinked a little.

"Wow, I haven't said not-dirty in a while."

Cally laughed a shut-jaw snigger. "Def'nitely different tools," she said.

"Well, consider you and tools hired."

"...okay now that 'ounds really dirty," Cally said.

"First rule of the shop: no dirty tools. Always clean 'em before you put 'em away. And there's pretty much no way to ever mention anything in my profession without it sounding dirty so I kinda gave up halfway through freshman year of college."
