MCA#0, Friday Night

So you'd think with the day off from the construction site, Xander would be able to have a nice relaxing time - sleep in, kick back, put the cell on silent, watch some tv, right? Well, it had started that way. Then he checked his voicemail.

First there was a prank-call from Mel, which he had to admit got him for a second. Then one from a complete stranger asking to partake of his skills in girl-talk. Which was... sort of a compliment, he guessed?

Then the offer of not-in-public OMGWTFNO from that wizard kid, which he had to call Bridge about becausesdkj see OMGWTFNO, then the bowling invite which was actually nice, even if he didn't recognise the voice. Maybe Dawn would fill him in on who it was, since he passed it on to her. Then Isabel asking if he wanted some Gatorade, which again, nice, if random. Not that she'd ever come over with it after he called her back.

Just when he'd thought they were getting less weird, there was the call from the kid who captured his twinkie (*) which was less of the OMGWTFNO and more of the WOW HI AWKWARD and FLAIL but also aww, and he had to think about his reply for a while before he knew what to say.

And then bang zoom, straight into the OMGWTFWTFWTF with a message from Bridge, and no answer when he tried to call back to find out what was going on.

And then there was what was clearly a wrong number from Peter but added worries about his BFF's relationship to Xander's concern about his own, and following that....

Well, following that was the Mountie who clearly got hit on the head by an I-beam this morning which left Xander feeling guilty about not being at the site, and following that was the one that is responsible for Xander's current state of staring in wide-eyed horror at his phone - because THAT is so not Bridge. Not that he doesn't kind of wish Bridge would call him and say something like that, but it's NOT, so... asdfghjkl!

Okay, so it probably took him longer than it should have to put the facts together. But eventually Bridge remembers what happened last year with the phones, which is why he's going to see Xander *in person* now instead of calling, kthx.

Xander should remember what happened last year with the phones, except for him it was seven> years ago. Honestly even so, he'd probably have twigged to it as soon as, well, he stopped asdfghjkl-ing.

Which he hasn't, yet. He carries his phone over to the door and asdfghjkls while he opens it.

"Hey," Bridge says by way of greeting. "Uh. I don't suppose you actually got my message?"

"...Hey." Xander's asdfghjkl dies down a little, replaced by a more concerned wtf. "The one about thinking you're boring and stupid? Because, um, what the fuck?"

"Oh," Bridge makes a face. "You got *that* one. Sorry."

"Wanna run the where the hell that came from part past me again? Or, y'know, for the first time?"

"Katara left me a message saying she doesn't *hate* me, she just thinks I'm boring and stupid. So... I tried to call her back. But I guess I ended up getting you instead? And from the sound of it I'm guessing you didn't get the message I'd *actually* meant to leave for you."

"Why would this Katara chick think you're boring? And you're like three times smarter than me, so she's clearly nuts." Because that's the part of what Bridge said that he should be paying attention to, yes. Idiot.

And okay, hearing Xander actually *say* that he's not stupid or boring? Actually pretty reassuring. Not that he'd been worrying about people finding him as such or anything. Really.

"She's not nuts," he says defensively.

"Head injury?" Xander suggests. "Which is actually what I was wondering about you. Like I said in my message."

"I do not have a head injury!" Bridge frowns at Xander.

"Which yay. But if you seriously believed I thought you were boring or stupid, I'd be worried about whether I was looking sparkly to you, is my point." Xander rolls his eye. "So what message did you try to leave for me?"

"Um, about maybe going to Caritas sometime this weekend? And then doing the not-in-public stuff after that maybe?"

Click-whirr.

"I got a message about not-in-public stuff, but it sure as hell wasn't from you." Xander points to his phone. "It was from that Ronan kid, which, uh, grateful to him for making me understand you when you were a ferret? But not that grteful."

"Yeah, no, no doing *any* of that with Ronan," now *Bridge* is frowning at Xander's phone.

Xander coughs. "That was actually the less WTFy of the not-in-public messages I got today." Because he is an idiot - but also because asdfghjkl - Xander plays Bel's message - not that he recognises the voice - for him.

The whole phone mixup might have kind of slipped Bridge's mind as he hears that message. "No. No, no, no. Absolutely not. Did I mention no?"

"You might have, yeah - it was hard to tell in with all the noes." Xander holds up both hands. "Hey, I'm totally happing with my current clothes-ripping and bendy service and have no desire to switch providers, thanks."

"Good," Bridge says firmly. "...Do you really want clothes-ripping?"

"...Well, no, 'cause I kinda like my clothes," Xander admits. "Maybe some wrinkling? I'm all for the bendy parts, though."

"And ripping clothes is just wasteful," Bridge adds. "I could do the bendy thing. Or you could do the bendy thing, rather."

"Well, it usually requires a little of both," Xander points out in the most unnecessary bit of news since last week's AP wire article on the wetness of water.
