MCA #0, Saturday Night

After checking to make sure that the lobby was still dry and there was a fresh supply of towels and hot coffee out there, Xander retreated to his apartment in the evening. Guzzling coffee and munching twinkies all day had left him craving some real, people-made food, so he had water boiling on the stove for pasta. Because he was still a guy. Who majored in construction.

Bridge does not outwardly do a victory dance. There is definitely an inner victory dance going on, though, as he heads back in to the bathroom and gathers up his uniform to go throw in the laundry.

Which is good, because an outward victory dance might cause the towel to fall off, and that would be very, very mean.

Xander returns with a terrycloth bathrobe in one hand and...well, the bowl of spaghetti he hadn't actually put down in the other. He holds out the robe and shields his face with the pasta.

"Robe. Here."

Bridge grabs the robe and lets the towel fall to the floor as he puts it on. "Thanks, dude," he says gratefully. And then, because he *is* a guy. "...Did you mention food?"

Oh. Robe. "There's food. with or without meatballs."

"Shower and dinner," Bridge says with a smile. "You're too good to me. With, please."

"I was already making dinner," Xander points out, heading back into the kitchen for meatballs and silverware.

Not that he wouldn't have made dinner for Bridge, not that you couldn't eat with a friend and lend them your shower when they're half-drowned. It's just that saying it like that makes it feel like Xander planned it that way, or at least like it would look that way from the outside, and...erf.

"Well, still. Thanks for sharing." Bridge says with a shrug. "Synthesized food just doesn't cut it, sometimes."

"Some of it's microwaved," Xander admits, coming out of the kitchen again with two bowls and a can of parmesan cheese because he's classy that way. "Couch? or you want to actually sit at the table?"

"Pssht, tables," Bridge waves a hand dismissively.

Xander's thankful the robe is slightly too big for Bridge. "Right. Couch."

Bridge settles on the couch and makes himself comfortable.

"So yeah, I actually did stop by for a reason other than using your shower and washing machine and eating your food."

"Selling magazine subscriptions?" Xander guesses, twirling spaghetti around his fork.

"Yes, that's it exactly," Bridge says. Only around a mouthful of spaghetti soo it's slightly muffled.

"Okay, but I already take Watchers' Weekly and--" Xander decides a little late in the game that Out of Uniform, while accurate, might not be the most appropriate one to list here. "--the, uh. Weather Channel Magazine."

"And what about the SPD Academy newsletter?" Bridge replies.

"I think maybe they're still delivering that to my old address." Not that he actually had one.

"Probably haven't got the most recent edition yet then," Bridge says.

Xander shakes some cheese onto his food. "Something in there I should know about?"

"Commander Cruger found our fifth team member," Bridge says. He's still not sure what his feelings are on the matter. The email hadn't even mentioned a *name*, so Bridge really had nothing to base an opinion on.

"Yeah?" Xander shifts his bowl to the crook of his bent knee and looks over at Bridge. "That's good, right?"

"Well, yeah," Bridge says. "I mean, that's the way it's supposed to work, but then with Jack not accepting the offer and everything, there was just the four of us. But now there's... whoever he found, and I'm wondering, is he or she even like us? I mean, they probably have to be, they wouldn't stick a normal person on the team of freaks, I guess. And Cruger's sending a shuttle to pick Z and I up this Thursday."

"You're not a freak," Xander responds immediately. It takes another second before he processes the rest. "This Thursday? Are you, um. Leaving leaving?" He's not very good at hiding how not very good he is with that idea.

"No," Bridge is quick to assure Xander, noting his reaction. "I don't *think* so anyway. He didn't say he was pulling us out of school or anything, or tell us to pack everything we own, so..." he shrugs.

"So... good. That's good. You shouldn't have to switch schools, I mean, not in the middle of the year." Xander does that pasta-twirling thing again, but doesn't actually pick the fork up out of the bowl.
