MCA0: Tuesday Night

Break week is nice. Break week without a boyf-- huh. Xander can't call him the B-word-person anymore, can he? Anyway, break-week when the person who used to be your b-word-person is fifteen years and a dimension away is kind of... b-wordy. The kind of b-word that -- without threats of vengeance, work to do or other people's good news to help celebrate -- ends in oring.

At least until his phone starts playing a certain Simon and Garfunkel tune.

"How's life in THE FUTURE the future?"

"Boom kinda almost blew up the couch in the common room," Bridge reports.

"That... doesn't sound much different from your normal day around here, actually."

"He did it using a cast that had a built-in laser."

"Nifty. Does it dispense banana chips, too?"

"No, it- hey!"

"What? This is the guy you didn't blow up the academy with in the first place, right?" Kind of hard to forget a name like Boom.

"Yeah, but. I had nothing to do with this! *I* didn't make the arm cast laser thing!" Bridge protests.

"Ahhh," Xander says. "Not as good, then. Still cool, but not as good."

"...Not really," Bridge says. "Because it just made Sky throw a fit which meant the rest of us got to do an extra obstacle course run later, though at least it wasn't the mud run. I'm still not even sure why he felt the need to take it out on us, I mean, really, all things considered, you'd think he would've been in a better mood after, but noooo..."

Xander takes a couple seconds to process that, then: "After what?"

"We kinda got promoted!" Bridge says excitedly as he flops backwards on to his bed with a bounce that could possibly be heard on the other end of the phone. As could the annoyed protest at the volume made by the room's other occupant. "And by kinda I mean we did," he continues, slightly quieter.

Xander can hear the grin, let alone the bounce, and it brings an answering one to his face. "Yeah? All right! So do you have your own giant robot now?"

"No," Bridge admits, somewhat less enthusiastically. "We didn't actually get powers yet. Just a different squad designation."

"You've already got powers," Xander points out a little confusedly.

"Genetic powers," Bridge says. "Ranger powers are different." They don't freak other people out, for one, he doesn't add.

"So when you get those do you basically turn into Really Strong Guy Who Can Fly And Read Minds And Shoot Laser Beams Out Your Ass?" Xander asks.

"Well, I can't actually fly unless I'm piloting a Zord that has flight capabilities," Bridge explains. "And... I can shoot them out of my sidearm? Which is a different one from the one I already have."

"I guess that's acceptable. 'Cause I'd be really sad if you came back with a different ass than the one you already have."

"You don't think my-" awkward cough as he remembers there's someone else in the room with him, "...um. Could use an upgrade?"

Xander, who has no one in the room with him but a disinterested frog and a holographic plant, snickers. "Your um?"

"You know exactly what I mean!" Bridge says. "I'm just- there are certain topics of discussion that roommates who are not Anders- hell, even roommates who *are* Anders- don't need to know about."

"Your um isn't exactly a secret. It's right there following you around when you walk."

"I know *that*," Bridge says. "I just mean Sky probably doesn't want to *hear* about it."

"Well, he's missing out then. Because it's a very, very, very fine um."

And Bridge's blush is probably about as audible as his earlier grin. "Well, he'll just have to do without. Because I may not have a tattoo that says as much, but I'm not interested in sharing it with anyone who's not you."

"Or shooting laser bolts out of it?"

"That either," Bridge says, rolling his eyes. "It just seems uncomfortable."

The reply is more of a wheeze than a snicker, this time.

"*What*?"

"Dork."

"I am *so* expecting cupcakes when I get home," Bridge says sternly.

"Hey, I know which button makes those now, and everything!"

"So you're not gonna mix it up with the pickles button again then, right?"

Xander makes a face. "Dude, no. Lesson learned."

"Good," Bridge says. "And, I'm kind of getting death glares from certain roommates who are not Anders here so I'm gonna have to go," he continues.

"Just tell him you know where to get pictures of him in a banana suit and you're not afraid to use them," Xander answers. "But okay. Night. Love you."
