MCA Holosuite, Thursday Afternoon

Before heading off to John and Aeryn's engagement party later that night, Xander was sitting inside the open doorway, the room itself not powered up, running through the list of sequences - the non-dirty ones, kthx - on the screen of his laptop. He wondered if it'd actually be possible to adapt some of the movie-related ones to fight scenarios for Mel; at least they got the gore-levels right in some of them, even if the dialogue left a little to be desired...

Mel paused for a second before replying. "He asked if I liked his gift," she said. "Then made threats about hurting my friends."

Or he could be wrong. Xander's voice hardened. "Not gonna happen."

"Yeah. I know," Mel said. "But he's my brother. Or was. He still knows all the right buttons to push."

"Family'll do that," Xander agreed. "Hence my current policy of Avoid if at all possible with mine."

"Your family have vampires too?"

"Amazingly no, considering the number of times my dad must've walked home drunk through this town. We just have taxidermists."

"Is that like a mutant accountant?"

"It's like a guy who stuffs and mounts dead animals."

Apparently Mel is taking the term "Stuff and Mount" in a different manner than what Taxidermists actually do.

"Uh. Huh."

"And then hangs them on the wall. Or, y'know, gives 'em back to their owners so they can hang them on the wall."

"The owners want their animals back after they've been mounted and stuffed?"

"Well, usually. They probably wouldn't pay him to do it otherwise."

"They pay him to do it? Ew."

"I always kinda thought so. Then again, as a guy who dated a mummy, I guess I can't exactly talk."

"Seriously? You dated the undead. I thought that was a slayer thing."

"Hey, no!" He might be a little hypocritical on that one, yeah. "Just kind of...reanimated. Plus I didn't know she was at the time so it totally is nothing like dating the undead. At all. Much."

"So it'd probably be good advice not to date anyone as it'll most likely end in me possibly being killed. Right?"

"That's not exactly how I'd put it, no."

"Then how would you put it?" Mel asked glumly.

"Try not to date evil people? And then when you fail at that, try to learn from your mistakes?"

"And good sign other than leather pants on them being evil?"

"Good question. I'd say if they tried to bite you, but hey, some people are into that."

"And that's sooooo not a conversation I'm having with you."

"I didn't say me-people. Okay, signs of evil. Burning down churches, raising demons, showing an interest in dating me -- admittedly that one's a bit shaky."
