MCA #0, Thursday morning

Xander was slouched on the sofa studying the layout of the building, wondering if he could get away with adding another wing or something to deal with the slow but steady stream of new townies that seemed to be trickling in, considering that Giles had filled the last available apartment and with the landing pad on the roof it wasn't like he could build up.

He wasn't using it as an excuse to have something to stare at besides the wall while he obssessed about various conversations, some of them more unsettling (and less one-sided) than others. At all.

Mel didn't often get that feeling when someone supposedly walked over your grave, but she was getting it now and shivered slightly.

"Oh. I'm sorry to hear that," she said but her mind was flashing back to her little jaunt in the woods and the last form (http://cantjossme.livejournal.com/9500.html) her "spirit guide" had taken. "I read a little bit about her from the watcher journals in my time."

"Yeah? Did they get much past the going bad part?" Xander leaned against the back of the couch, keeping an ear out towards the kitchen for the buzzer on the waffle iron.

Mel gave Xander a sheepish grin. "Yeah but I stopped reading the journals. Some guy named Wyndam-Pryce took over and started writing and it was too pompous for words."

Xander cracked up. "Oh, I bet." He snickered. "He did get hotter cooler eventually, believe it or not."

"Hopefully his writing style improved as well," Mel smirked. "If I ever get back home I'll have to catch up on the journals Then."

"Well, he only got cooler after he got fired from left the Watchers' Council. I'm not sure how well that bodes for me." Just then there was a loud buzzing, and Xander scurried off to the kitchen to grab Mel's waffle before it burnt.

"Aren't you still with the council?" Mel asked now picking up the photograph and giving Faith a close examination. "Because you're pretty decent as is. I don't think you need to be cooler."

"Score! I'm totally holding that over Giles's head." Xander emerged from the kitchen with a plate, a waffle, and a fork, the bottle of syrup still sitting on the coffee table. "... no, I'm not. Well, maybe my Giles, but not this one."

Mel looked at the waffle with interest. At least this time Xander wasn't feeding her something that looked like a... something.

"Why are there pock marks in it?" Mel asked.

"To put the syrup in!" Xander picked up the bottle and started pouring it over the waffle.

He wasn't filling each and every square.

"That's quite a lot of syrup," Mel said with a grin.

"It's light syrup," Xander protested. Because well, there was a season point when he reliazed maybe he should cut back on the twinkies a little, yes.

Mel smirked and picked up a modded fork. "All right. Where do I start?"

"Well, there's the 'pick the whoe thing up and try to eat it like a pizza' method, but I don't recommend that one for beginners. I sugegst breaking off three or four squares at a time with your fork."

Mel took the recommended amount on the fork and took a bite.

"Mmm. Good," Mel said with her mouth full. From the corner of her eye she glanced again at the photo of Faith.

"So. Um. Remember that thing in the woods?"

"You're not gonna ask me to do the hokey-pokey again, are you? 'Cause I just ate."

"Nah," Mel replied. "When I was talking to the guide it took on a couple of different forms. One of them was Faith. I didn't know it was her until I saw the picture."

Xander's fingers tightened on the syrup bottle for a second, but he nodded and sat down on the couch. "Makes sense that it would appear as other Slayers."

"Probably doesn't mean anything, right?" Mel said taking another bite. "I mean it turned into Buffy too."

Xander twitched a skeptical eyebrow. "It always means something. They just never bother to tell you what."

Mel frowned as she poked at her waffle with her fork. "What they did tell me was pretty cryptic. Basically that I'm not only here to regain my connection but also to fix some timeline that went wrong."

Xander crossed one leg over the other and rolled his...eye. "Well, that narrows it down. There's... let's see, just here there's Buffy, Willow, Dawn, me, Giles and... probably Lorne since there's another one where I come from, all from different timelines that have Slayers. At least one guy who graduated with me's from another."

"Huh. Well. Looks like I have my work cut out for me then," Mel said with a sigh. "Gotta say though... These waffle things rock."

"You can also throw them as a weapon. So I've heard. I don't think they'd do a lot of damage, but if you're, say, fighting a vampire who doesn't like getting his hair sticky..."

"You run into a lot of vampires who have that issue?" Mel asked with a smirk.
